Vasy

Co-founder, Mar 2021 - November 2021

Boston, MA

With Vasy I was responsible for formulating its vision, goals, and objectives, as well as managing all aspects of business development. I identified an opportunity to create a decentralized member’s club through a mobile app platform that would allow members to connect with existing friends, create new connections, and attend curated events in a hybrid social club setting. I managed a team of four, recruited developers, and implemented agile scrum methodology for product management. I also developed the MVP, designed the backend architecture, and integrated brand design and identity into the frontend UI with the graphic designer.

To validate the idea, I conducted idea validation polls on Instagram, which captured interest from approximately 4000 users. I also evangelized the app to social media influencers to promote adoption and advertisement, created a website to waitlist registration for the app, and garnered over 350 sign-ups with a website view vs. sign-up conversion rate of 17%.

Unfortunately, we were ultimately unable to secure the necessary funding to scale the product and conduct proper marketing outside of the existing social network. However, the experience taught me many valuable lessons, including the importance of validating ideas, managing a team, and effectively communicating with stakeholders. It showed me the challenges of launching a product in a highly competitive market and inspired me to pivot and focus on bespoke B2B mobile app development while continuing pursuing my passion for entrepreneurship.

Comcast FreeWheel

Data and Business Insights Analyst, Summer 2019

London, UK

During my internship at Comcast FreeWheel, I gained experience in performing market data research and analysis, as well as compiling detailed reports for my supervisor. I also mined structured, unstructured, and transactional data using SQL queries in Presto with underlying AWS infrastructure to provide rich datasets for data-driven TV advertising planning and post-campaign reporting. To improve the SQL queries, I utilized Python to design and maintain data processing solutions within a Linux environment.

I generated insights through data-backed analyses to support customer decision making and investments for clients. To drive advertising insights and strategy across linear and video-on-demand (VOD) platforms for senior management, I created comprehensive reports consisting of Tableau dashboards and Excel files.

This internship provided me with a greater appreciation for the power and transformative abilities of data analytics in the world. It also taught me the importance of developing clear and concise reports to drive insights and strategies across different platforms. More importantly, it showed me that I could do this type of work the rest of my life and not get bored.

Furthermore, the experience inspired me to live and work abroad in the future, as I was able to connect with people from different backgrounds and perspectives. Overall, the internship was not just a job, but a passion that allowed me to grow both personally and professionally.

Spark! at the Hariri Institute for Computational Science and Engineering

Innovation Fellow, Spring 2019 - May 2019

Boston, MA

Being selected to participate in a highly-competitive program providing funding to develop my own mobile application was a transformative experience for me. It was the starting point for me to discover my passion for building mobile apps to solve inefficient problems not only I, but other people, and in this case other students at Boston University faced. This experience led me to want to solve problems for people beyond the university in the real world.

As the leader, designer, and developer of the iOS app using Agile-Scrum Methodologies, I was able to manage a team of four people and perform full-stack tasks from a Software Engineering and Product Manager role. I implemented the app using LAMP stack architecture (Linux, Apache, MySQL, Python) on Linode and Swift on Xcode.

Through this experience, I learned the importance of effective communication, leadership, time management, and problem-solving skills. I also learned that creating an efficient solution to a problem can positively impact people's lives, and it is a fulfilling and satisfying experience to create something that helps others.

This experience inspired me to continue exploring my passion for building mobile applications and solving problems. I realized that my skills and knowledge could be used to make a positive impact on people's lives. It motivated me to think outside of the box and to continue seeking out opportunities to innovate and create.

Massachusetts House of Representatives

Legislative Intern, Summer 2017 - Dec 2017

Boston, MA

During my time as a legislative intern for a congresswoman, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects that allowed me to gain insight into the world of politics and legislative processes. One of my major accomplishments was managing a legislative project that introduced a state-wide bulk purchasing program for fire station extractor machines, which helped prevent the transfer of carcinogens in a cancer prevention effort.

In addition to this project, I also contributed research on a range of topics such as immigration, electronic privacy, and second amendment protective orders, and attended various seminars, congressional hearings, and briefings, which I summarized into a comprehensive memo for the congresswoman and her aides. I also actively assisted constituents with resolving issues, filing tax returns, and drafting correspondence, gaining valuable skills in communication and problem-solving.

Accompanying the congresswoman at official events gave me a glimpse of the importance of public relations and how they are crucial in maintaining strong political relationships. Additionally, maintaining the online platform VoteBuilder and a filing system for all constituent casework allowed me to gain insights into how effective organization is key to a productive workflow. Lastly, auditing the House of Ways and Means fiscal year budget and tabulating the allocation of funds for the congresswoman’s specific initiatives helped me understand the intricacies of budgeting and resource allocation in government.

This experience taught me the importance of attention to detail, strong research skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with both constituents and lawmakers. It also showed me the value of working towards a greater good and making a positive impact in people's lives.

Through this work, I was inspired to pursue further education and training in public policy and advocacy, with the goal of continuing to make a difference in my community and beyond. It also solidified my belief in the power of government to positively impact people's lives, and the importance of being an engaged and informed citizen.
